Temple of the Dog, Fantastic Negrito - November 5, 2016 - Tower Theater, Upper Darby, PA

After seeing the first ever Temple of the Dog concert the night before, I returned to the Tower Theater the following night to see the second Temple of the Dog show. When the tour was first announced, Temple of the Dog was scheduled to play 5 shows in 5 cities, Philadelphia, New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Seattle. However, because of the high demand, second shows were added in Philadelphia, San Francisco and Seattle. It is interesting to note that the band played both large stadiums, such as Madison Square Garden in NYC and The Forum in LA and smaller theaters, like the Tower in Philly, Bill Graham Civic Center in San Fran and Paramount Theater in Seattle. The second shows were added for the smaller venues.

The setlist was almost identical to the first night except for the addition of Mad Season's "River of Deceit" and "Missing," a Chris Cornell song that was unreleased and never played live before.

Much like the first night, Mike McCready, one of the most underrated guitarists in rock, shredded through some of the best solos I've seen him play. His best songs of the night included "Reach Down," Led Zeppelin's "Achilles Last Stand," and Black Sabbath's "War Pigs."

Over the two nights, I ended up with 4 guitar picks. One was given to me by Pearl Jam's tour manager Mark Smith and a few from a random guy who came up to us and said 'here's some picks from McCready.'

Both nights were amazing, but with the addition of "River of Deceit" and "Missing," night two gets the upper hand on night one. The band also seemed more comfortable and the songs were played to perfection. I have seen Cornell solo acoustic twice, once in 2013 and the other in 2015, but it was my first time seeing Cornell plugged in with a backing band. Cornell has a powerful and unique voice that sounded just as good with a full band as it did when he sang solo.

With any show, in this case two shows, there are songs you wanted to hear but didn't. I wanted to hear "This is Shangrila" and was shocked that "Chloe Dancer/Crown of Thorns" was not played. It is by far the most popular Mother Love Bone song and seemed like a no-brainer as the perfect song to honor Andrew Wood. Pearl Jam have played it 31 times, including the show I was at on Philly night one in April 2016. Although I didn't see Temple of the Dog perform it, maybe it will be played on one of the eight shows on the tour and maybe Eddie Vedder will join the band for "Hunger Strike."
